The tradition of athletic excellence that is the MacDonald Avenue Men's Athletic Club was never more apparent than in 1981.  From the season opening exhibition against Binghamton Savings Bank, an extra inning 11-10 victory, to the season ending playoff game, a heartbreaking 5-1 loss to Brozettis by the Fat Cat version of the team, 1981 was truly a team effort.  With a nucleus of 7 players, MAMAC fielded 2 teams in the Economy "A" and Economy Major leagues.
The Night Owl Cafe team won the "A" league with a sparkling 13-2 record beating Funzy's twice in the payoffs.  The first game margin was back to back home runs by Willie and Howard leading to an 11-8 win.  The second game was even more intense, with the Owls trailing 6-1 going  into the top of the 6th. After scoring 2 in the 6th, the Owls took the lead in the 7th with a 2 out rally started by Willie's HR. Ed, Al, Gary, Brendan, and Bill then followed with consecutive doubles.  The bottom of the 7th saw an attempted rally snuffed out by 2 great fielding plays by LF Ed Murray including the game ending flyout /throw out doubleplay.
The Fat Cat team finished the regular season 7-5 and in a 3 way tie for second place. The Cats beat Barrels 18-5 but were rained out with Brozzettis and declared co-2nd place finishers. A coin toss lead to another game vs the Barrels, and a 17-5 win.  The finals were a 2 of 3 game set with Brozettis and the Cats pulled out a 5-2 win in the opener.  But Brozettis would come back to win games 2 and 3, ending thoughts of dual championships.
Individual achievements were many, including the first ever 20 game winner, Brian, and Greg Wilson's outstanding year at the plate, hitting .445 and slugging .736!  Howard Reeve hit 8 HR's in only 92 at bats, and Cliff Miller contributed 12 doubles.
